The ongoing saga for the long awaited (by both Panamanians and foreigners who have Rights of Possession over coastal or island property) legislation that will regulate once and for all (!) the titling issue over coastal and island property in Panama had another chapter “written” over the holiday season in the National Assembly “circus”.Enetering the mix, wealthy investor and developer families with great political influence and “connections” who are seeking quick and profitable land grabbing for their own private agendas.
In between, as is always the case, poor Panamanians who have been living or working on the land for decades and retired foreigners with small parcels of land looking to title their retirement property and left alone to enjoy their retirement.
So th equestion remains: Is there a light at the end of this long tunnel for the aforementioned “small people” caught in this maze of political quarelling, power grabing and “land profiteering”?
The final decision (if there is going to be one) was now moved to March.
The Panama News featured an article describing the situation in detail and as accuratelly as possible. Here is a link to the article for your viewing pleasure.
